This is an amusing rant about whether or not to use two spaces after the end of a sentence.
It links to some article on Slate or somewhere. I don’t care. I don’t read Slate. But I am amused by the rant.
However, one should know, that the use double-spaces after a period ending a sentence was solely a formatting convention for typewriters which have monospaced type and no means of controlling the space between words (tracking) or the space between characters (kerning).
If you are double-spacing today, people probably call you “grampa”.
I learned to type on a (beautiful, sexy) IBM Selectric back in the late 80s. We were taught to double-space at the end of a sentence.
Then computers came along with digital typography and I learned to use one space like a healthy, sane person.
If you learned to type the same way but are now unable to unlearn formatting tricks for 50 year old office equipment, you probably have a learning disorder.
